Go to www.msn.com and click on the "Preview..." link to see the new face of MSN. It looks much cleaner and it is faster too. It has an RSS reader, what I did not try it yet.

The real Mac mini

"..Who says you can't run Mac OS X on a PocketPC? Consultant and columnist Teddy the Bear managed it by setting up a remote, wireless connection to his Mac in Austria. It's no speed demon, but Teddy the Bear can exert total control through his PocketPC. He manages e-mail, browses the web and queues up TV shows for his Mac to record using EyeTV..."

The wait is over...

The Mac Mini.

Can I have one, please? It reminds me my nintendo gamecube.

The specs are:
1.25 or 1.42GHz G4 processor,
40 or 80GB hard drive,
a slot-loading CD-R/DVD-ROM
256MB DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9200

It is on sale from the 22nd of january.

The sequel that should not be

I just saw the movie Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reasons and it just made right into my "worst movies ever" list, in fact it made into the top 3. So the official list is something like this:

  • Good Girl with Jennifer Aniston,
  • 21 grams.
  • Bridget Jones - The Edge of Reason

I mean as much as liked the first that much I did not like this one. A clumsy, cumbersome and boring movie …

Synthetic Biology

I just read this interesting piece about DNA engineering. I guess we will be able soon to create superhuman just like Spiderman... I think I am just going to save some money to buy this mod for myself.

"...And what might the practitioners of this emerging science do with such godlike capability? Within a decade, some hope to create bacteria able to mass-produce drugs that currently have to be painstakingly harvested from rare plants. Others talk about making viruses encased in protein sheaths that can be used to produce fabric with molecular circuitry woven into its warp and weft. In the more distant future, synthetic biologists envision building more complex organisms, like supercoral that sucks carbon out of the biosphere and puts it into building materials, or an acorn programmed to grow into an oak tree - complete with a nifty tree house. And there's the opportunity to add new chromosomes to the human genome, ushering in a panoply of human augmentations and enhancements…"

What happened at the CES keynote

It seems that everybody is moaning about the CES keynote glitches. Personally I do not understand why it is such a big deal. Anyway, Sean Alexander is blogging about his keynote speech experiences.

In our postmortem, the team thinks one of two things happened- the USB booster failed or two much IR interference on-stage. We tested for this prior and ran into some minor issues with Plasma TVs used for timers and prompters creating interference on another system but Bill's remote control was never an issue - moving the displays fixed the problem. Of course, we didn't have cameras going off regularly with IR autofocus during the runthroughs. The audience can see the pictures but everyone on-stage is seeing thumbnails. It happened so fast, people just see Bill clicking.

Billg interview on Gizmodo

He talks about blogging a lot and it seems he is using outlook to read rss. I would be very interested to know what blogs he is reading :)

Gizmodo: Do you use a lot of RSS then?

Gates: I've got the RSS plug-in [for Outlook]. I used it a lot when I started out, and now a lot of the blogs I read are where people have sent me emails and said, hey, I ought to look at this. I'm very big... I want to always go to five or six sites on a regular basis so that I can track over time what's new about them.

Another good one from Joel

First of all happy new year! 2005 is going to be cool and interesting with lot of interesting technology stuff. The best ever! I can't wait :).

Second of all Joel wrote another nice article where he gives you some pretty good advices on what to do if you are a Computer Science College student. I am strongly agree with the "learn to write" and "learn C" parts and yes I managed to figure out why while(*s++=*t++) copies a string, though it took a bit of time to debug this code through in my head. Also I realized that I need to look at the "learn to write" part, so there you go: this is my first publicly made new year's eve resolution ever!

Is Apple preparing something like a TabletPC?

"...Apple has filed for a European design trademark which may provide a tantalising glimpse of the company's long-awaited tablet computer.

The filing, made in May this year but only published this week, covers a "handheld computer" and contains sketches of what look like an iBook screen minus the body of the computer…"

This is what I want - the iMate Jam

I am just having this growing urge lately to get a new gadget. I am not sure why but from time to time I just feel that I need something new to play with, something small and flashy. I need something new every 6 months or so. After reading this review I decided that this is what I want. iMate Jam. For Christmas. For this last one :-)

"...The I-Mate Jam has blurred the edges between Smartphones and PDA Phones. At around £325 it’s no more expensive than traditional Smartphones, yet offers all the benefits of a full Windows mobile PDA, including access to all the extra applications and hardware available to this platform. If you want a Microsoft powered device, I really can’t see why you would buy a Windows Smartphone rather than this, we may be seeing the end of Windows Smartphones soon, in favour of smaller lighter Pocket PC phones..."
